Service Questions
What is the difference between an online UPS and an offline UPS?
An offline (or line-interactive) UPS passes mains power straight to the load and switches to the battery when the supply fails, so there is a short transfer time. An online UPS converts incoming power to DC and back to AC continuously, so the load always runs on clean, regulated power with zero transfer time. Servers, medical equipment and any sensitive load should use an online UPS.
How do I know what UPS capacity I need?
Add up the wattage of everything you want backed up, allow around 20-25% headroom for future additions, and decide how many minutes of backup you need. We do this as a free load study at your site and give you a written recommendation.
How long do UPS batteries last?
SMF batteries typically last 3-5 years and tubular batteries longer, depending on temperature, how often the mains fails and how deeply the batteries are discharged. We test battery health at every AMC visit and flag cells before they cause a failure.
Do you service UPS systems you did not supply?
Yes. We service most makes of UPS, inverters and stabilizers, and can take over an existing installation under an AMC after an initial inspection.
Do I need a servo stabilizer if I already have a UPS?
It depends on the load. An online UPS already regulates the output for whatever is connected to it. A servo stabilizer is used where the whole machine or panel needs stable voltage - for example CNC machines, imaging equipment or lifts that are not on the UPS.
